Mayweather 50-0 record

Dominant Fighters with 50-0 Win Streaks in their Sports

The 50-0 undefeated winning streak in combat sports has become ever more popular today among fight fans.

A lot of the buzz around this record of 50 straight wins undefeated has been created by Floyd Mayweather as he achieved this record in 2018 to much global recognition.

But while Mayweather is credited for brining the 50-0 W record to world attention in recent years, there are other combatants who also dominate their chosen martial arts who have also achieved this record but with much less fanfare and recognition.

Here they are in no particular order or ranking beginning with the man who set it off – Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather.

1. Floyd Mayweather 50-0 Win Record in Pro Boxing

Floyd Mayweather retired from professional boxing in 2015 equalling Rocky Maricanos record of 49-0.

In 2017 Mayweather came out of retirement to defeat Connor Macgregor in a professional boxing match and take his unbeaten record to 50-0 with no draws, thus surpassing Rocky Marciano’s record in pro boxing.

Mayweather again retired after defeating Macgregor with a record of 50-0-0 with 27 KOs.

In the history of pro boxing other fighters have also attained the 50-0 W streak and also retired undefeated, it is only Mayweather that has achieved this record without the ‘blemish’ of a draw on his record.

Other Notable 50-0 W Boxers

  • American boxer Jimmy Barry retired with a record of 60-0-10 and fought between 1894-1919
  • Mexican boxer Ricardo Lopez also retired undefeated with a record of 51-0-1 and fought between 1990 and 2002.

2. Waheng Menayothin – ‘Dwarf Giant’ – 54-0-0

The Thai boxer nicknamed the ‘dwarf giant’, Waheng Menayothin equaled Mayweather’s boxing record on May 2, 2018, by knocking out Panamanian opponent Leroy Estrada in the fifth round in a mandatory title defense.

In August 2018 Wanheng moved to 51-0 and surpassed Mayweather’s 50-0 record by defeating Pedro Taduran in a a unanimous decision, retaining his 105-pound world title for the 10th time.

Wahengs current record is 54-0-0 after defending his WBC mini flyweight title by defeating Simphiwe Khonco in a unanimous decision in Thailand, Oct 25 2019.

3. Saenchai – 54 straight wins in muay thai

Pro muay thai fighter and living legend in the sport, Saenchai (formerly Saenchai Sor Kingstar) is one of the most active fighters on the international stage in muay thai.

Saenchai competes regulalrly despite being almost 40 years old (born July 30 1980).

Saenchai is one of the most dominant fighters in modern muay thai history and competes so regularly that a loss would not be unexpected.

However Saenchai has achieved a 54 win streak and his 314th win overall in THAI FIGHT: Thai Fest in Patong with a knee KO of Tophik Abdullaev in December 2019.

Saenchai has been competing in muay thai since 1988 and also has an undefeated pro boxing record of 5-0.

4. Hakuho – Most Dominant Yokozuna in Sumo

Current Yokozuna and dominant competitor in sumo today, Hakuho has achieved much in his time at the top of professional sumo in Japan.

Among his list of achievements is the undefeated winning streak he accomplished in 2010 with 54 consecutive wins.

This win streak is the longest win streak in sumo post WWII.

Hakuho extended his winning streak from 2010 to 63.

This placed him as second all time in terms of consecutive wins. His record of 63 consecutive wins is second all time in Sumo history.

In addition to the consecutive win record, Hakuho continues to dominate sumo today and has achieved many milestones including:

  • Most top division championships: 43
  • Most career wins: 1146
  • Most top division wins: 1052
  • Most tournaments ranked as yokozuna: 74
  • Longest-serving yokozuna: twelve years, five months
  • Most wins as yokozuna: 858
  • Most consecutive wins in the 6 tournaments per year era: 63
  • Most undefeated championships: 15
  • Most wins in a calendar year: 86 (achieved twice)
  • Most wins in a calendar year nine straight times from 2007 until 2015
  • Most consecutive years with a top division championship: 14

5. Teddy Riner – Undefeated since 2010

The 6 foot 8 inch, 290 pound French Judoka, Teddy Pierre-Marie Riner has not lost a competitive match in Judo since September 2010.

His current undefeated winning streak is 144 judo matches. In his career, Riner has only lost eight times in elite international championships.

Riner, a 6th Dan black belt is considered the most successful judoka ever in the history of the sport.

He is double Olympic Champion in 2012 and 2016.

Riner has also won 10 world titles which is the record for the most world titles in judo.

Gunning for 50 wins

The 50-0 record is a goal set by notable fighters today.

Namely Jon Jones and Deontay Wilder have made their intentions known as they pursue this monumental record.

Wilder currently sits at 42-0-1 and is close to achieving 50-0. However the one draw he does have will somewhat ‘blemish’ this record in some peoples eyes.

Jon Jones aims to finish his MMA career with 50 wins, something which has never been done in MMA.

However Jones does have one controversial loss by disqualification due to illegal elbows.

He currently has a record of 23 wins one loss and one no contest.

Final Thoughts

With Floyd Mayweather announcing that he will be returning to the ring in an agreement with Dana White, the Mayweather 50-0 record could possibly be extended.

However as discussed in this post Mayweather is not the first to achieve such a record in pro boxing (though he and Waheng have not had any draws on their recrods).

The 50-0 winning streak is indeed a huge milestone in any combat sport.

Here we have discussed dominant martial artists in their respective sports who have achieved a 50 match win streak.

Though the fighters discussed here have suffered losses, the 50 win streak is still a remarkable achievement for a competing fighter.
